Tucked beneath a quiet canopy of heritage oaks in Portland’s Raleigh Hills, Oaknoll begins as a 1957 post-and-beam, then quietly becomes something more. When the sellers, after years with Nike, set out to reimagine a home for their next chapter, they weren’t chasing novelty; they were chasing feeling: light, openness, and the effortless indoor-outdoor living they’d admired in classic mid-century design. What they found was a modest, timeworn house on former orchard land. What they created is a careful restoration, one that honors the original architecture while reimagining key moments and introducing a thoughtful addition – rebuilding nearly everything beneath the surface with precision and intention, where every detail was considered, and nothing left to chance.

Working alongside architect Risa Boyer and high-performance builder Josh Salinger, the sellers approached the project as both craft and education, preserving the soaring post-and-beam ceilings while quietly upgrading the home to modern performance standards. The result is a house that feels both grounded and expansive. Walls of Loewen glass draw the outside in; a reimagined rear façade opens to a courtyard pool reminiscent of Palm Springs. Inside, walnut cabinetry, Heath tile, and a warm mix of mid-century icons and Scandinavian restraint create spaces that feel curated but deeply livable. Oaknoll isn’t a reinvention-it’s a continuation. A home that carries its history forward, reimagined for the way we live now.
